Jaguar plans more sports cars including a Porsche Boxster competitor

Jaguar seems to be getting its sporting identity back. Its parent company Tata announced today there will be three new vehicles in the Jaguar’s line-up in the future: a coupe or a roadster derivative of the XF sedan, a lightweight sports car to compete with the Porsche Boxster, and possibility another new luxury car.

Jaguar -1Of these future plans, the XF variant seems to have been in the pipeline for the longest. It is likely the roadster/coupe will be the F-Type that was announced back in May (rendered above). The F-Type will likely be positioned as a baby brother to the XK, and possibly take a few design cue from the concept that was first shown in 2000.

Jaguar isn’t getting all of the cars on its wish list. Plans for an SUV are dead because it would be redundant next to its Land Rover stablemates. Also there will likely be no replacement for the entry-level X-Type, which proved to be unpopular in North America.
