Gemballa launches limited edition ‘Tornado’ Cayenne GTS

After displaying a concept version of its 'Tornado' Cayenne GTS early last year, Porsche tuning specialist Gemballa has revealed full production specs for its latest kit based on the original concept. Only 50 Tornado models will be completed, with two different versions available and three different states of tune. The big SUV has been given a totally new look inspired by the awesome Carrera GT supercar, and includes a new set of five-spoke alloy wheels, larger air intakes in the front apron, a carbon-fiber hood, new taillights and an integrated rear diffuser. 9ff takes Porsche 911 GT2 to 670 hp and beyond

9ff Porsche 911 GT2 The Porsche 911 GT2 is hardly lacking for horsepower, but the 9ff crew can never leave "good enough" alone. With a pair of V670 turbos, a 9ff custom intake manifold, headers and exhaust system with a two-stage valve that takes the engine note from raucous to profane, the 9ff GT2 puts out 670 hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque. Zero to 62 comes up in a supercar embarrassing 3.6 seconds and 124 mph is dispatched in a scant 9.8 seconds. Naturally, the ECU has been modified to make use of the additional boost and breathing mods, while simultaneously raising the rev limiter to 7,200 rpm. The additional power is shoveled to the transmission via a single-mass flywheel and racing clutch, while a coilover suspension does its best to keep the GT2 on terra firma at all times. 9FF's 1300hp Porsche 911 Based Draxster

A drag-racing Porsche 911? Why? Well, why not? Although Porsche's iconic sports car hasn't traditionally been a drag-strip competitor, the car's rear-engine, rear-drive layout is actually ideal for drag racing. Porsche specialist 9ff has just unveiled the DraXster, a boosted, 911-based supercar whose focus seems to be quarter-mile domination. It's a high-horsepower, high-torque lightweight 911 whose lack of aerodynamic aids suggests that it's not intended for sustained high speeds but rather maximum acceleration.   The DraXster's 4.0 twin-turbo flat six puts out an estimated 1300 hp (970 kW) and 877 ft-lb (1190 Nm) torque. The car has also been lightened to 1168kg, and 9ff reports a 9.5-second run to 161mph (260 km/h). Yes, the DraXster is faster than a Bugatti Veyron. Thanks to the lack of adornments, the DraXster is low-key, with very few exterior details to distinguish it from any other 911. Spy shots: 2011 Porsche Cayenne interior revealed

Prototypes for Porsche's next-generation Cayenne have been spotted testing in Germany on several occasions, revealing crucial details for the new SUV which is expected to go on sale by May 2010. First and foremost, we know the next Cayenne will be smaller than the current model although it will still share a common platform with the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7, both of which are not expected to change significantly in size compared with current versions. The smaller size of the new Cayenne agrees with Porsche's desire to create a much more hard-core performance SUV than the current model, which has been criticized for being too heavy. Facelifted Porsche Cayman and Boxster debut in L.A.

So far 2008 has been about the renewal and reinvigoration of Porsche's 911 lineup, with the highest-performance variants still to receive their dual-clutch PDK gearboxes and direct-injection upgrades. Next year will be an even bigger year for Porsche, however, as there are more updated 911 models due as well as the facelifted Cayman and Boxster The first official images and details for the 2010 Porsche Cayman and Boxster have now been revealed, just hours before the cars make their world debut at this week's Los Angeles Auto Show. LA 2008: Porsche reveals improved Boxster and Cayman

Even as the industry swirls in turmoil, Porsche continues to offer hope to enthusiasts as they relentlessly increase performance without sacrificing efficiency. For 2009, Porsche has given the Boxster and Cayman a mild facelift, along with updating the interior and accessories. More importantly, and following in the footsteps of the 911 Carrera PDK, all 2009 Cayman and Boxster models are also offered with the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe transmission (aka PDK). Mated to the new transmission are two significantly reworked engines featuring direct injection. The result is more power, and improved fuel economy (we shouldn't fail to mention that the PDK accelerates faster than the six-speed manual). Porsche is offering two engines in 2009. The standard engine is a 2.9-liter flat-six rated at 255 hp. The "S" models are fitted with a more powerful 3.4-liter sending 310 hp to the gearbox. Like the Carrera, go-fast options on the sporty mid-engine two-seaters include active suspension (PASM) and ceramic brakes (PCCB). Look for both to arrive in showrooms in early 2009. Porsche defers VW majority plans until more favorable economic conditions

Late last month Porsche announced that it had 74.1% control of the Volkswagen Group via a 42.6% direct equity stake and options giving that gave it the additional 31.5%. The sports carmaker also confirmed its previous intention to increase its stake in VW to more than 50% by the end of the year, however, in the latest turn of events Porsche has announced that it will wait until the new year to make any further strategic moves. Referring to the increased share acquisition, Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking said at a conference today that "in light of the current economic environment, it therefore becomes increasingly unrealistic to achieve this goal within 2008." He said the goal remained to raise the voting stake above 50% but there was no rush.

 

Porsche buys a Tesla Roadster for competitive research

Researching the products of competitors, even to the point of purchasing and then carefully analyzing each piece, is a common practice in the auto industry, especially so at the bleeding edges of performance and technology. Porsche's purchase of a Tesla Roadster is therefore unsurprising, except that it indicates a dissatisfaction with the eRuf 911 recently revealed in concept form.
