UK automaker Caterham joined with RS Performance earlier this year to create a special performance model of the Seven roadster. The Caterham RS Levante, first example of this partnership, launched in the spring, is the most powerful Caterham ever built. And guess what ? it is officially going into production, with only eight cars to be built. Don't get your hopes up, though. All eight have already been sold for £115,000 a piece. The Caterham RS Levante is powered by a 2.4-litre, 40-valve RST-V8 supercharged engine that outputs and amazing 500+bhp at 10,000rpm and 300 lbsft of torque at 8500rpm. The car only weighs 520 kg which means it has a power-to-weight ratio of 1000bhp-per-tonne - almost twice the one of the Veyron. The Caterham RS Levante has a limited top speed of 150 mph and can reach 60 mph in less than 3 seconds. In parallel to the success of the Caterham RS Levante, Caterham Cars enjoyed one of its best ever sales periods this summer thanks to the arrival of the critically acclaimed Superlight R500 and the expansion of the Academy race series from two to three grids for the 2009 season. |
